Crowns for Front Teeth Procedure: Your First Appointment

Most of your dental crown procedure work will take place during your first appointment with your dentist. The process involves the following:

1. The dentist will first numb your mouth using an injection to ensure you don’t feel pain during the procedure. 
2. The dentist will then trim and shape the tooth to allow the crown to fit snugly. The amount of trimming for front teeth will vary, but the dentist will trim off about 70% of the tooth on average. 
3. Once the tooth is shaped to its desired size, the dentist will take a few minutes to take an impression of it. This impression is done so the dentist can make sure your crown will fit your unique bite. 
4. The dentist then brings a color chart to match the color of your natural teeth. This is the color they’ll use to make your temporary and permanent crowns. 
5. A temporary crown will be placed over the prepared tooth until your permanent crown is being fabricated.

Placement of Permanent Crown

Once your permanent crown is ready, you’ll return to the dentist to get it. The temporary crown will be removed and replaced with your new crown.
