The various types of mouthguards available at Wahlen Dentistry

At Wahlen Dentistry of Perry, Utah, Drs. Jennifer Wahlen and John Torghele are committed to serving patients in the community and providing preventative and general dentistry solutions. This includes educating patients on the importance of mouthguards. You can ensure proper fit and function with custom mouthguards fabricated by a dental practice. We invite patients to visit our office to learn more about the types of mouthguards we offer and discuss the benefits of customized appliances.

What are the types of mouthguards available?

There are various types of custom mouthguards available at Wahlen Dentistry. These include:

  • Sports mouthguards. Mouthguards worn during athletic activities will ensure that patients can protect their smiles from damage if trauma occurs to the mouth or jaw area. While there are some boil-and-bite mouthguards available over the counter, a custom mouthguard made at Wahlen Dentistry will ensure optimum protection of the smile
  • Bruxism. Patients with bruxism, which involves the clenching and grinding of the teeth, may require a teeth-grinding guard to protect their smile from damage. Clenching and grinding while sleeping can cause damage to natural teeth and dental restorations, including breakage and cracking. Wearing a mouthguard during rest will reduce the risk of breakage and ensure the longevity of dental restorations and natural teeth
  • Nightguards. If you snore or are dealing with a condition such as obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), a nightguard might be right for you. Our professionals will educate you on the type of nightguard that can be used to maintain open airways and reduce snoring and other symptoms of OSA
