What types of dentures are available at Wahlen Dentistry?
At Wahlen Dentistry, Dr. Jennifer Wahlen and the Perry, Utah team work with patients to assist them in restoring their smiles, especially when tooth loss and extraction occur. When patients are ready to restore function and beauty, they are often urged to consider the many benefits and types of dentures available to them.Â
Our team can educate you on the various denture types so you can make a knowledgeable decision regarding the restorative solution most appropriate for your unique dental needs.
What are the various types of dentures available at Wahlen Dentistry?
- Traditional dentures. Traditional dentures may include both partial and full dentures. Partial dentures are best used for patients who need to replace one or more teeth in the arch. These appliances are designed with a metal framework, allowing the patient to snap the denture into the smile using the remaining teeth to anchor it. The partial denture can be easily removed for care and cleaning. A full denture is an acrylic restoration made with false teeth and gum tissues placed over the gumline to replace all of the teeth in the arch
- Immediate dentures. Immediate dentures, sometimes referred to by patients as temporary dentures, are made before the extraction of all the teeth in the smile. They replace the full dental arch and are placed the same day extractions are made. They are a short-term solution but can last several months, while more permanent options are considered
- Overdentures. Overdentures are another solution for patients struggling with traditional full dentures. These dentures are more conservative. They use dental implants placed along the dental arch to stabilize and keep them in place, ensuring functionality. Overdentures are an excellent solution for patients who want to start with a reliable restoration or those who have used traditional dentures and have found them difficult to maintain in the smile. Additionally, overdenture maintains the natural bone of the jaw thanks to the placement of titanium implants. This maintains facial shape and reduces the risk of a “sunken” jaw and chin area that affects one’s appearance
